Will plant leather become the next air vent?

Release time:2023-05-09

Plant leather has been particularly popular among fashion enthusiasts since its release. For a long time, the fashion industry has been criticized for environmental pollution and violating animal ethics. In recent years, many brands have begun to increase their investment in sustainable fashion, seeking more sustainable ways to choose alternative materials, produce and sell products.

Unexpected materials such as coffee grounds, plastic bottles, and crab shells can all be turned into textiles to wear on the body. And leather, as a material with unique properties, is not easily replaceable. Although many technology companies are confident in their products, plant leather still needs to overcome some levels in order to withstand market tests.

The first step is to solve the problem of simulating genuine leather. At present, there are still some shortcomings in the texture, luster, durability and other properties of plant leather. Due to the limitations of raw materials, leather made directly from plant fibers is difficult to achieve the effect of genuine leather in terms of fineness. The surface of the material is relatively rough and may not meet the aesthetic needs of some consumers, thus limiting its applicability.

Relatively speaking, fungal leather and laboratory artificial leather perform better in restoring genuine leather, but they also have their own problems.
